About us

We meet in the Morningside Parish Church, where we fill the space that is available to us, so our vibrant and active Group has a waiting list for spaces for all age groups.

About Us

Scouting is thriving here in Morningside, Edinburgh, and the 25th Braid Scout Group is one of the oldest in our area. Officially registered in 1919, we have continuously provided Scouting experiences for the young people of Morningside since then – and the fun continues.

Our base is the Morningside Parish Church, but we mostly meet outside in parks and open spaces around Morningside and the Braids. We fill the space that is available to us in the church, so our vibrant and active Group has a waiting list for new joiners across all age groups.  Our Leaders organise a range of outdoor and indoor activities that help teach skills for life and contribute to the community of Edinburgh in many different ways.

We are always keen to welcome new adult helpers, whether as regular Leaders, occasional helpers or as members of our Executive Committee. Together, we form a strong and successful team delivering fun and adventurous opportunities for the young people of Morningside.

Our Group offers:

  • Squirrels – 4 to 6 years old
  • Beavers – 6 to 8 years old
  • Cubs – 8 to 10½ years old
  • Scouts – 10½ to 14 years old

We have links with the Myreside Explorer Scout Unit (14 to 18 years old) and other Explorer Units in Braid District.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
